There is a guy in Michigan who increased his best by over 621# from 2013 to 2014. If he gets just half that increase next year he can beat the current record. And when you consider he missed the long gourd record by 3/4" on a real late start, I think he has what it takes to make a run at Beni's record. And he has a greenhouse/high tunnel too.

Anything could happen.but as long as beni has a good year with out any of the major problems that seem to happen all to often. I think he will stay a couple hundred pounds ahead of the rest . I think he will grow 2500 next year and next best will be 2200 or so. I want to know what seeds he plans to grow! Just my thoughts.

silver bullet my ass. Everything Beni grows is a silver bullet! No bull shit luck with his 2328 last year and no bullshit luck with his 2323 this year. This hobby is very quickly returning to just that for everyone(a hobby). There is no doubt in my mind that Beni will clobber his own personel best next year and make a WR nothing more than a wild dream for the rest of the pumpkin growing world. So you think its all in the seed do you?? The Wallaces still have a hand full of 2009's so lets sit back and watch the results over the next few yrs!!!! And if i hear another word about organics i'm going to loose my mind

when you consider between last season and this that beni has grown 4 (four) massive weights? he certainly does have something going for him.
everyone always wants to mimic what the top growers are doing. it makes scence so we all give this a try.
ya just gotta figure out what he did and decide for yourself if its right for you.
one thing i do know. its an amazing probably never to be duplicated accomplishment.back to back to back world records all by the same grower in the same season-wow

I think there are a lot of amazing growers here in the states but 1 big problem that separates many of them from the best growers is seed cost.A lot of the growers will only be hobbiest because they will never be able to straight up buy a 2009 or a 2032 seed.I know this money is to help clubs and the GPC to keep going but for Petes sake make more of the high dollar genetics available and affordable to more people. There may be a lot of growers out the that are doing everything right but because they cant afford the newer genetics they may never get to know a PB or even a world record.Just my thoughts

slim not bragging but i have a 2009 from Ron and a 2032 From Tim.
all you have to do is ask.most growers are more than happy to get those
genetics out there.

Yea what Dale and Pap said. It ain't no fluke when you break the WR then break it 2 more times in the same season. You probably have been witness to something very very rare and special. In Europe to stay for awhile, imho.

Master p That's cool and good for you but I assume they know you in some way or heard about you. There are more growers then seeds and I know to keep these clubs going and for growers to be able to keep the genetics and their patches going that the seeds must be sold in most situations.I am not doubting the generosity of the growers here and if it was that easy to get seeds the growers would not be able to support clubs and the GPC.You get between 400-600seeds and maybe 2 -3000 growers who would love to have them. The growers have a responsibility to their clubs that they support, themselves and others that they help.I for 1 am not complaining because the growers share whatever they can.I am only a third year grower and have not put my dues in.I see some good crosses coming down from the top and did buy 1 at a great price, under 20.00 as a fact and the best growers are very kind of heart but to be inundated every year with people asking for seeds would drive me crazy and trying to decide who gets a seed is a challenge to anyone.I myself find it unreasonable to ask for just these reasons.

I remember when Joe Jutras grew the 1689, that beat world record at the time (1502 Wallace) by nearly 200 pounds! I remember when Ron Wallace grew the 2009, this pushed the world record ahead again by almost a couple hundred pounds.
Both times I have been surprised that with in a couple of years time, a half dozen or more growers attained similar weights. I don't see any reason why this years record will be any different. I didn't think 1500 pounds was possible, I didn't think 2000 pounds was possible either. But I am beginning to feel that maybe, just maybe 2500 is.

no doubt in my mind 2500 is possible, pretty sure we will surpass 3000 in next 5 years, after that, we will have to figure out how to extend growth period...but I don't think we are near the top yet.

Slim, if you have a problem asking for seed it's not a money problem. There are great seeds out there for the asking and depending on seed counts almost every pumpkin grower I've ever asked for a seed have been more than generous! Tim Mathison gave around 500 2032 seeds away.
Pap and Ron two of the worlds best and most well known growers have been giving seeds to growers for years. They get barrels of requests every year and do there best to get seeds to any who ask. These are just two examples but they are the rule not the exception! Go ahead and ask and if you are ever fortunate to grow a pumpkin that people admire and want seeds from follow their example and give your seeds away as well.good luck. Scott

Scott,I thankyou for your response and I did say I don't doubt the growers generosity and I know they share what they can.I do give my seeds away every year to other growers in my area, not that anyone really wants them.I am on a set income of1200.00 per month and a 450.00 seed is not affordable.I know they do their best to cover what they can,I also wrote that too.So I will ask for seeds this year but it is very rare to see anyone on bigpumpkins giving away really good seeds.I would rather pay something then nothing at all.

There is just so many good crosses now, many pumpkins with the same great cross even. Probably easier now to get good genetics for fee than ever before. Simply too many to grow.

I see it like Ryan, Plenty of great crosses out there. Think of how many 2009,1623 and 1985 have been grown. Many of those next generation x's can be obtained just by asking. I actually gave away both my 2009's last year knowing theres going to be some great 2nd generation seeds with the 2009 in them.

There's a few things missing from this discussion. First, my congrats to Beni who has figured out this game very well. He is indeed the guy to beat, however this game is not just between one grower and another. Don't forget Mother Nature. How many go the top growers in the past thought that they had the key to consistent success just when some natural situation wiped out that streak of success? Between bad bacteria in the soil to an unusual infestation of insects and to (need many of you be reminded) the extreme weather, we are not just competing against each other. I wish Beni continued success, but God forbid, there's always the wild card of nature to get in the way.
On the other hand, Northern Ca. Has enjoyed great success also (maybe partially due to the drought) but how might that change? Let's hope it remains successful.
Additionally, out there in Cecel's area they could see great weather and fewer bad bugs. That area could be the next consistent hot spot.
All we could do is apply our best knowlege based on our experience and hope that nature is cooperating.
To speculate where the best pumpkin will come from is like betting on the horses.
Good luck to all! (Growing and betting)

Well now these genectis are everywhere in the 1800 & 1900 lb kins.So they will be more affordable. But keep in mind.paying for a seed is a good thing. You are supporting a club like Ohio Valley which has the deepest payout in the world.Guys in 8th 9th & 10th place getting 2 grand for there prize this year. That isnt done without fundraising(seed sales)Support a club buy a seed this winter. If you think about it?If you cant afford the seed? Can you afford to grow it??

This year there were 7 pumpkins over 2000lbs and 14 over 1900lbs. On average there are 100-200 seeds per pumpkin. That means there will be 2000+ seeds out there from 1900+ pound pumpkins. These are not going to be selling for $450 although they will be the most sought after. Most of the pumpkins in the top 100 have genetics that could potentially grow the next world record and most growers are thrilled to have someone give their seed a shot. Unfortunately if money is an issue the world record is out of reach since you really need a tightly controlled environment and a lot of nutrients, both of which cost$$$.

I am already planning on getting the dam thing to New York! (Only a few thousand to go) as stated, the Wallace's were once a few hundred pounds ahead of everybody, and no one thought it was possible to pass them. I can't wait tell next year!

LOL, thats funny.
Normally pumpkin growers biggest sport is sandbagging ;)

I would like once to see a big one growing, shown in a diary!

But don´t only focus on Beni. There are some more growers, who want to grow a new world record in Europe.

Watch out for the Belgiums!
TOP 10 of their national championship 2014: each more than 1400 lbs.
