Don Young always ask me what three seeds I would plant in the coming year. So I'll ask you what three seeds would you like to plant in 2015. Now we all want Beni's three but what others would you chose?

Dear Mr. Clementz, who told you Beni Meier is not supporting the GPC ? Please check all facts before posting such an assumption. I also dont know all facts, but I know he always supported GPC in the past and that he said he wont go to NY because of his family. ( better : families addition )
At the bigger Weighoffs here in Germany the site owns the Pumkin until Halloween, so I think its a deal between Site and GPC.

GPC support?
Is it supportive to support growers who then will grow big pumpkins and bring them to GPC weigh-offs?
Is it supportive to make seeds available for clubs which then support these growers or clubs which can sell these seeds in auctions and therefore support themselves, thus supporting themselves as one of the foundations of GPC?
Is a direct flow of money right into GPC the only kind of support which can be called support?

Is it only about bringing a big pumpkin overseas (vs. not bringing a pumpkin overseas)? If that´s the case, then please make the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth a true world-wide thing, which would mean that the big pumpkins would have to be brought to the country where the biggest one had been grown (or something like that). And then see how many of the growers of the biggest pumpkins would want to bring their pumpkin overseas.

...just my thoughts.

I'm wondering from who the pumpkins are? from the hijacking Bubba, the GPC or from Beni? still think it's the last one...... Every grower here knows if you make an agreament with the organizer of the weight-off to let it stay there for the people to be able to see a giant pumpkin you need to follow up on the agreement, there sure will be some extra money for it, but I do think it's more honnest to the organizor to get a bit more cash to let it stay there than to take the cash and the pumpkin back home, it's not like you see a giant pumpkin every day around here

for once the people are able to see a giant pumpkin and than you would ship it to elsewhere where they have enough giants? families with children are thrilled to see one here, all 3 pumpkins on diffrent places and lots of families to see it , everyone should know that a smiling face from a child is more worth than a tv show or what so ever

I like them heavy

10/24/2014 11:04:08 PM

Ludwig Ammer

Eurasia

If heavy means more weight then EST., then you should grow on the base of the 140 Rahe 14, because this worldwide sensation is out of the triamble/tristar pollinated by an AG.
When you grow the 140 Rahe 14 and choose a pollinator from the 1385.5 offspring (which includes 2009...), you might get a 700#er in 2015 and a 1500#er in 2016.
As vegetable breeders we must prefer discrete thinking and never hear the badmouthing of Richard Wallace, who does not want us to loose mindcuffs.
