It's funny you should mention that. I've the same conversation with several people over the last week. Especially in Ontario, we've had the same weather patterns as NY and MI. Maybe there are some monsters still out there but it's not looking good so far and there shouldn't be any reason we are not pooping out 1700-1900 pounders like our neighbouring states. I have lots of excuses for myself .... but come on everyone, pull up your socks! LOL.

Canada usually has 5-10 in the top 100 each year. If some growers lose their big ones it get really lower that number.
We've had great weather this year & there's still plenty of weigh offs left so I'm sure we'll see some nice ones.

Not sure. But if you break it down by small country vs region\state, then Switzerland due to Beni alone, is the big weight capital of the world... so far.

Prince Edward County weighs 10/18 in Wellington ON. Why not milk this long summer?

Well, maybe all the Canuck growers are heading to the West Coast to British Columbia this year for the Aldor Acres Weighoff on October 11th.
We do have increased prize money and prizes available this year, maybe all the heavies are on their way here...

I was just suprised because canada usually canada has around 5 pumpkins in the top 20 at least ! Pluss it seems to be a banner year around the great lakes area and their weather is much like ours, thats why i am suprised at their numbers so far. Maybe their is stilll a suprise out their waiting for us ?

Were we live in Central Ontario, the night temps were quite cool for the majority of the summer. Average was 45-56 degrees F, with most nights being @ 48-50F. The nicest weather we had was only 2 weeks ago. LOL. That with a very dry season, kept growth to a minimum. Even though the weather was crappy, we still managed a decent pumpkin over 1360#. I consider it a win to get it that big this year. There might be only a couple pumpkins left that can reach 1500#, so that should tell you what kind of weather we had up here. Also remember we are north of the great lakes, while many areas to the west & south of the lakes experienced good weather for pumpkins, with plenty of moisture. Don't worry too much about Canada, we'll be back soon. I think if Canada is to compete for the biggest pumpkin, many growers will need to go to greenhouses, just like in Europe. Good luck to all this weekend. Jane & Phil
