We had a record breaking Ryan Norlin Memorial Weigh Off today in Anamosa, with site records in all 4 categories and 3 state records. Pumpkin site record 1666.5# grown by Scott Steil of Richmond, MN. Nebraska state record pumpkin and Howard Dill winner 1399# grown by Darren Christiansen of Bellevue, NE. Field Pumpkin site record 189.5# grown by Scott Steil. Watermelon site record and Iowa state record 209# grown by Marty Schnicker of Mt Pleasant. Site record and Iowa state record long gourd 129" grown by Mark McWilliams of Anamosa. We also set a site record for top 10 average pumpkin over 1300#. We had growers from 6 states: IA, MN, WI, IL, MO, and NE. I was thrilled to be a part of this event and I can't wait for the next growing season to start.

Cecil I am honest lol. I also will admit when I'm wrong. Received bad info and I shouldn't have played around. Still one heck of a weigh off. I believe they said they weighed over 23,500 lbs of pumpkins today.

Alot of nice Folks at Anamosa. Had a Blast. Big Thanks again to Greg Norlin & everyone who put this event together. I may have set the record for melon with the most "Air" inside, lol. Had some great conversations with Mark McWilliams, Marty Schnicker, Dave Miller, Scott Steil, Don Young on growing techniques, Darren on extreme weed control via tree removal, lol. One of the best moments early on was when a little boy no more than 7-8 yrs old walked up with an 8-10 pound FP and placed it on the scales. The look on his face when he was told how much it weighed. His dads smile couldn't have been bigger (nor mine), then he and his dad placed it with the others. Perfect. It was fun anticipating an 1800 lber to show up whether it happened or not and I think most would agree there were a few kins that looked heavier, lol. Thee anticipation is what makes these events great!!! Congrats to ALL!!!

I guess I missed another record. Scott Steil's field pumpkin is not only the site record, but Minnesota state record as well. That makes 2 Iowa state records and one state record each for Minnesota and Nebraska.
