if i had more serious room i would try giant bushel gourds for competition......very fun plants to grow....if GPC kicked in an incentive prize I would bet you would see some of the best growers kick out some monsters....i like Wixom's idea of any large official gourd instead of just bushel as this would bring all the big gourds to higher levels......" Out of your Gourd Trophy" sounds fitting...lol

Very good question Bill. This is what I think.
First; It has to be a one year crop to get seeds
Two; The grower control's the genetics.
Three; No disqualification because of color.
Four; Displays well at fall weigh offs.
Gourd, Pepper and Cucumber would be good.
The problem with cabbage is it takes two years to get seeds and marrow will cross with field pumpkins

I'm helping a friend move some very, very large bushel gourds this evening... will the record fall tomorrow? He doesn't do a diary, but maybe he'll let me post a pic later this evening.

I'm also thinking bushel gourds would be a great addition with all the new interest and the size they grow.

Cabbage for sure & maybe Tall corn & Tall sunflower. The GVGO recognizes all 3 of these our end of year awards & most Ont. weigh offs have awards for them as well.
