Yes, I am at a loss as to where I can grow a pumpkin next year 015. My yard is out due to lack of SUN - Community Garden's are out because of all the pests around i.e., bugs and what not Squash borers and the fact that my wife wants to go on a vacation.....what the heck can I do? Anybody know of a partner I could hook up with in the Appleton WI location and try to grow a big kin thanks John Hoepfner

I'm just curious but how many hours of light do you get directly? I was on my way to 800-1000 pounds with about 4.5 hours of direct light this year, and have grown a couple at 500 pounds in 4 hours in the past. It's not ideal, but I have also grown 300-400 pounds in as little as 3 hours direct sunlight. My yard is heavily shaded on all 4 sides which doesn't look to change, so have to make due. Removing a couple limbs systematically can make a big difference.

fluffy,
i think you need to grow a set. stand up to your wife and

1. tell her no vacations cause your going to grow a big pumpkin
2. no matter what she says cut all the trees out of the way ---- your going grow a big pumpkin
3. tell her your the boss and thats final-dont let her push you around
4. buy her something special along with wine and a dinner
5. tell her your the boss and from now on your name is fido not fluffy
6. buy her a nice piece of jewelery just before the chain saw fires up
7. make her feel part of the experience- teach her to weed, water, spray and pray
8. tell her theres no fooling around next summer. instead of the beach put the kids to work in the patch.the beach is over rated
9. make sure she knows your the boss-you wear the pants and its not up for discussion
10. if all else fails? crying and walking around the house like a lost puppy dog works well to

I asked my wife for more of the lawn for the patch, she said Hell no. I bought her a RAV4 Toyota, and still she said no. So I pouted like a little girl for 2 days. I now have more patch and no shame in the matter, we do what we have to.

Too funny pap, Fido, er fluffy you may check with a local farmer, they may have an acre patch somewhere you can grow on heck you may get lucky and find a place with water close by. Got a guy here local who ran an ad in the paper asking for a growing site and got a call from a farmer who had a place for next season with a well with pressure and the patch wasn't next to a field so no worries of round up overspray. Good luck. Pap sounds like you just landed 40 pages of script for toons, lol.
