Please correct me if I'm totally wrong on this, but if the 2009 was never grown, I think the 1894 Mathison would be the WR right now.

It just seems like we took such a huge leap from 1818 lbs all the way up to 2328 lbs in just 2 years. I've heard lots of people saying that we'll probably break 2400 lbs this year, which, if you told me in 2011, I would never believe. It seems like the 2009 is the backbone of it all. From what I've observed, pumpkins on the 2009 grow quicker, longer and typically weigh heavy. It's almost as if the 2009 is a new type of AG...Just a fun thought to think about.

The teachers strike ended here yesterday so we'll finally be able to go back to school after more than 3 months of being off, so I'll probably stop obsessing about other people pumpkins for a little while, lol. Best of luck to everyone, weigh-off season is here.

or is it the 1725 Harp that is special, or is it the 1385 Jutras, could possibly the 1068 Wallace. I have always wondered how many seeds that contain world records never get in the right hands.

Id say yes.Its produced some real giants. Some look like mom some look like dad.Seems like the mix is the perfect storm.

The really unique type was the 1068.2 Wallace 03 with that revolutionary short stem-to-blossom-axis.
Then came the most unique hybrid 1385.5 Jutras 07, a 1068/03 x 998.6 Pukos 05 (nicest classic AG-fruit with normal length and shape).
Only this Jutras´s 1385.5 brought the enormous hybrid vigor, nowadays new AG records are originated.
A selfed 1385.5 the 1725 Harp is mother of 2009/12.
I grew this 4-lober variety 1385.5 via the selfed 1172 Singleton 09 for the 612 Ammer 14 (stretto 1385.5), which now is my basic seed for breeding larger edible 4-lober pumpkins but also a good pool as mother for future heavy hitters., that other growers might use.
For 6-lobers I use the stretto 1723 Marshall 11 (via 391 Otnes 13) in my 278 Ammer 14 (I do not fatten fruits, because I must have the best seed). The 1723 is a genetically glutted with the 1068 revolutionist and so has an extreme short stem-to-blossom-axis.
Future growing for world records always comes from the 1068/03 and will be best with most lobes: from 6-lobers we should come to 7 lobes!
I do not like 5-lobers, because they can´t hold shape with two placental areas on the ground and three above.

Earlier this year I made a post predicting that the 1623 would outcompete the 2009. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. I think the WR will come from one of those 2 seeds.

I heard that Beni Meier has a pumpkin taping over 2000 lbs growing on his 2328, I guess that seed is in the running, too. I love pumpkin rumours...

If there was no 2009 the 1789 may have been planted as much and probably have the WR (and Ronnie's 1872). Just a thought :)

The 1783 was a freakish 1725 Harp just like the 2009.

I would have loved to give the 2009 a shot, but since I didn't...I had to go with plan B. On the upside though...I've got a 1623 x 1985 for ya Wizzy ;)

1623.5 is only 3/4 1385.5 and not better then Christy Harp´s 1725...so what!?
I love the stretto 1385.5 via 1172 Singleton 09.
Only the pure one has fortune!
But the stretto 4-lober 1385.5 has to be combined with a very interesting 4-lober. Which pumpkin could it be?
I will try the little mutated 4-lober triamble that I named quadramble... because this is the most dense C. maxima pumpkin with a solidly built shape.
Oh yes, to begin with a 6#er fruit, is a long way...
For NWRs now I think the 1723 Marshall should be bred stretto with 6-lobers only.

I couldn't believe how many long 5 lobe females that I pulled off the 1985. They were all long. I was wondering if this was common with the others 1985. 70 days later it's more tall than long, but great shape.

1985 produces many long 5-lober blossoms with an oblong fruit behind and the 1172 Singleton produces only 4-lober blossoms with the same elongated baby.
Both have this item from the selfing of the 1385.5 Jutras!
1985 has father and grandmother from the mother´s side 1725 Harp, which is selfed 1385.5.
1172 is off the same genetics as Harp´s 1725.
Next year I´ll try the stretto bred 6-lober 1723 Marshall onto the stretto bred 4-lober 1385.5 Jutras and hope not to finish up in the hell of 5-lober, which would be the arithmetic middle. I hope so much to get some 7-lobers with an oblong baby. The chance for this is about 0.01%, I think, but I must have the elongated 7-lober to build a boat for two!

...this hybrid will have many different F1, and I would love to have the patches to grow them all.
Who would like to join in 2016?
