For the folks that have planted a crop of mustard grass to get rid of pathogens, did you notice any less of a weed population during your pumpkin growing season ?

My understanding is that some weed seeds will be killed from the fumes,
Just curious.

Zappa, Took a while but I found this article again. It has a good video that explains the concept of planting mustard.

How about the reverse in having a winter crop of rye/vetch followed by Mustard in the spring?

Mustard would be tricky in the spring, once tilled under it needs a few weeks to gas off. If timed wrong it could cause some issues in your planting sites.

Probably best in the late summer/fall.

Fall rye helps a lot with weed suppression.

maybe. or it may have been my spring Rye leaving it grow as long as possible may have let most the weed and tree seeds get mowed over then tilled in. But i did have less weeds.

just following the other comments, I agree.
My experience is that mustard helps but isn't any absolute miracle that I could see. Spring planting would be great if you were planning on fallowing a field, otherwise fall plant mustard and then rye to overwinter. A good cover of rye does help keep weeds down. I planted rye hoping it would deter wire worm, I think it did help.

Or, you could ask Nub how it worked.
