Lots of times some of us want to send a personal message to a person posting here on Big Pumpkins but there is no capability here to be able to do that. Instead we have to "give a shout" to the person we are trying to contact. Would it be possible to add the capability of sending a PM to anyone posting here? It would, I believe, be very helpful to some of us.

Marv, if they have a diary here on BP.com can't you just click on the mail Icon by their user name in the diarys and bam you have their email address? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Sometimes people are aware of how to access the growers´ email details from the diary, and sometimes the got their email details from different sources, but they receive error messages as soon as they send an email, or they never receive any response (which might be due to loss of emails in spam folders or somewhere else), and therefore these growers try to contact others via the message board. Hence, it´s basically a good thing that growers can post on the message board if they wish to contact a grower and have tried it before without success. My suggestion for improving the whole situation is:
There should be a new section in the message board which might be called "Contacting Other Growers", and in addition to the regular message board table there should be some first lines which
1) Tell newbies how to contact growers via "orange envelope"
2) Point out that people trying to contact another grower should provide their email address with their message or they should point out that their email adddress can be accessed via "orange envelope" or their email is already with the grower they try to contact and their attempts of contacting this grower just failed for some reason.

This should limit the number of messages of those who simply aren´t aware of the orange envelope.

Thanks guys. That worked pretty well. What about people who don't post in the diary? Is there another way to get their email address? I never knew there was an orange envelope. Live and learn.

Sometimes the "site search" helps. You type in the name of the grower and then you check those message board entries where other growers have already asked for email contact details of this particular grower. In some cases you might be lucky to find an email address in the old message board entries.

I really appreciate this site and the service it provides so don't take this wrong but It seems with as much use as the site gets that it is worthy of an upgrade. Its almost 2015 and I don't think this site has changed at all since it was created back in the 20th century. There are so many things that could be done to make it run smoother. Some things that I would like to see are...
- a better interface for uploading photos to your diary.
- the ability for live links so you don't have to copy and paste urls into your browser
- a better organized how to section for helping out new growers
- the ability to private message.
- possibly tie in some of the genetic info.

I realize that this stuff takes time and money but with as much traffic as this site gets there are ways to get advertising dollars to offset cost. There are some very talented people in the pumpkin community as well who could probably lend their expertise. The Pumpkin fanatic genetic site is fabulous in my opinion and I am sure he would love to share his expertise to make this site run smoothly.
