Strap them down, wedge them with bales of straw, do not let them just ride on a pallet. If you are worried about strap damage get some pipe insulation.

Pool noodles work pretty well to protect them from straps.

I put mine on a pallet and then put a towel/sheet over it and then used heavy duty clear plastic packing wrap. Worked great.

They WILL slide if you hit the brakes hard. Have seen two trucks where the pumpkin pushed the bed into the cab and one of them it broke the window too.
