When they stop moving on the outside they still might be gaining internally.Keep it watered but not soaked.Soaked=disease/rot.keep it shaded on hot days & keep the fruit dry.Keep mouse traps or bait around the area.As long as its on the vine it should not loose weight. If the stump gets mushy cut the mv and let the kin back feed off the plant.Once you cut it off it will start loosing. If you keep a sheet on it the wood chucks most likely wont see it.I keep baited traps around all season.
