Linus, I learn all the time here. That's great. I have never heard of using a rubber snake to scare away birds. If it would keep the robins out of my berries I'll get a 20 foot plastic Boa constrictor next year. Thanks for the info 308, I thought it looked like a milk snake but I don't know the snakes in VA. Steve, we only have the garter snakes, don't eat mice, but their main diet is slugs. So, I have built lots of dry stack stone walls to give them places to live in. Seems to help a lot. A couple of neighbors who have cats, they kill all the snakes, have a lot more slug problems then we do.

a plastic owl mounted high up will work to keep critters out too.

I've got rubber snakes up in my barn, on the rafters and above the outside large doors to scare off the birds....Unfortunately the sparrows and barn swallows used the rubber snakes to fasten their nests on, lol.

I used a plastic owl to stop robins from scratching the paint on cars in a parking lot, they were attacking the side mirrors. This was the second year they had done this, they stopped the day the owl went up, no more plastic bags over the mirrors.

I have used rubber snakes for 5 years but I don't think they help much.
Baitman, I had that issue with a starling that would attack anyone's car parked in front of our house. One morning I parked out front, got on the passenger floor and tilted a BB gun out a crack in the window and was 2 inches from the mirror he'd attack and poop on. He got pink slipped that morning.
