Remember a couple years ago when 1500 pounds was impressive. I think this year it is going to take a 1700 pounder

To have the same impact that a 1500 pounder had just last year. Heck I it wasn't too many years ago that 1200 became the new 1000 pounder.

Chris,
Have you ever tried to hop a moving freight train? Just when you think that your about to get a good grip, you trip over something! Welcome to the (accelerating) world of competitive giant pumpkin growing.

Weights go up on average 75# / year and that's pretty linear. Sure some years it's nothing and some years it's 150#. This year could be 150 the way it sounds.

But....as in all years reality will strike...and always strikes the further we get toward weigh-off time.

Farming- a bunch of catastrophies that result in a lifestyle

Give me a 1500 pounder, I'd be dancing the jig!

as the top end goes up? so does the bottom.to me though each grower establishes their higher goal as they progress through the years.

yeah it seems, over the years, if your pumpkin is within 10% of the WR, people are just buck wild for the seeds that grew it.
