i think we should have a funraiser..lol I would like to see enough $$$ raised to send the top 10 growers in the world to Alaska for one season to compete with Dale Marshall!! A full diary would be mandatory...lol Now how much fun would that be???

Sounds like fun, BUT:
- For some of the TOP 10 GROWERS the worst part would be the diary thing...you know, some of them probably have no time available for keeping a diary.
- Dale probably doesn´t want to share his greenhouses with another 10 growers (oh well, for a fair competition we need to make sure all of them are growing their plants in the same location and all of them had the same time for patch prep).
- Wouldn´t it be much more cost efficient to send Dale to California or to Rhode Island for a year or two?
- Wouldn´t it be more fun to send the TOP 10 GROWERS to a place (the same place for all of them, of course) on the southern hemisphere from Oct. to March to prove some of their own seeds of the latest season before others start to grow them on the northern hemisphere?

don't have time for a diary? Who in the hell doesn't have time to post a few pics once a week. What a joke. My work day starts at 2am everyday.

I think the issue is that some growers thrive on the surprise. You never hear a peep from them until they show up at the weigh offs. They post on the message board but never indicate their own progress. I enjoy sharing my diary and reading others.

@ pburdon, that´s exactly what I had been pointing at with my first comment ;-)

@ John Cabot Trail: Please be friendly to your neighbor, there´s an alternative option for a funraiser which would be something like getting Dale and some 10 TOP GROWERS move to Donkin for a year for a direct comparison in that environment. That would be an option which should allow at least two guys (the two of you from Nova Scotia) to enjoy that fun in the direct neighborhood and to have the one or another drink with the other top growers.

Anyway, it´s a fun idea, you guys will get the best out of it.

...sorry Chris that I switched from California as the venue to Donkin. Your vote might have been for California, I guess.

Oh, that´s probably a matter which should be discussed by the potential hosts of the competition (and entered among the rules of participation): something like "The TOP 10 GROWERS (who need to bring their own tools, seeds, drink supply for the neighborhood, etc.) are invited to..."

I think DONKIN may know a good supplier of "Waterford" shine and I will supply the blueberry wine!
They may all need to bring their greenhouses and wind protection on that tools list. Will you be first to step up to the plate Pumpking, as I have a prime piece of Cape Breton meadow land with a babbling brook not 20 feet away? Perhaps Carl has a piece with a nice view of the Atlantic?

the only grower excluded from posting a diary would be Tim Mathison and only because my neck is still sore from his last posts

I think you should just send Dale down to the states. He surly would grow the next WR. Just look what he can do in a Alaska:)

Just like if you take a Nebraska fisherman anywhere and He'll beat anyone:) If you can can catch fish in Nebraska's mud holes you can catch them anywhere.
