This year most of my maple leaves have , what i think is leaf spot.
If i grind them up and spread them in my patch like i do every fall, could that cause any winter over issues? Matt D, i hope you can respond to this one.

Zappa, more than likely it's Anthracnose

Correct diagnosis is the first step, do your leaves look like this?

Matt, definitely not that. I believe that is called " tar spot "??? The spots i am seeing are a reddish brown and have a light yellow hallow. I will try to post a pic tomorrow. Tree doc, i looked at some pics of anthracnose, and do not believe that is it.
( I'll be bak !! )

We have had a mess of rain this summer, near record amounts for june and july. I noticed the spots in early July.

Zappa, google image 'Maple Anthracnose' and I think you'll see what your problem is.

My previous post was of "Tar Spot" (Rhytisma Acerinum)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a4/RhytismaAcerinumDetailU.jpg
What I think you (ZAPPA) may have is Purple Bordered Leaf Spot. It is hard to tell because the images are blurry (you might want to try macro mode next time).
http://hort.uwex.edu/articles/purple-bordered-leaf-spot
Since you have the ability to see the leaves up close you want to look within the leaf spots small black, pimple-like fungal fruiting bodies form, see the following link for a picture of what this looks like...

If I can be of further assistance please let me know.

That has to be it ! I will look very close and see if I see any of the black spores in the middle.
I would guess that even if this is the issue, that it will not hurt my soil for growing in ???
Thanks
