The right perspective is the key. You will notice that the stem of the pumpkin is almost as thick as the little daughter standing on the pumpkin (at least the perspective makes it look like that).

I thought they might have flipped the pic somehow....but all the leaves match up and nothing is in the wrong place....LOL. messed with my eye balls a good one!

Upon more close inspection...I think it really grew that way!! There appears to be a 'hole' they dug out under the stem to keep it from crushing...this picture is like one of those optical illusion ones. the longer you stare, the funnier it looks to the eyes!! LOL

Just wondering if there had been an S-curve in the vine or if something like lack of slack made the fruit lean back.

to me it looks like they did the S curve but left the secondary on at the node and the pumpkin grew over it. this would not allow the stem end to grow up as it grew,but it did grow forward. causing them to dig a hole for the stem. lots of extra work to keep a secondary
