Does anyone have a 220 growing? How is it doing? I thought this seed was going to do amazing in 2014 but it doesn't look like there is very many growing?

Most could not get them to germinate this year. I was 0 for 3. One tried to go but then failed. There are a few out there growing though.

I planned to grow it too. I could not get it to germ. So I planted the 1766 DeBacco instead. I think that the 1766 has great potential from what I have seen.

Almost forgot about that seed. I couldn't get it to germinate either this spring. So much hype, but I haven't read that seed name all summer.

I think it may be a trait of younger seed development. I've collected any seed from culls to early plant demise. I would have a hard time getting those older seeds to germ. Seems that careful storage may figure into the equation, also. I think mine dried out too much. Hummmmm!

We may have to look to those first and second generations for the gene traits of the 220. I have the 845 O'Brian 13 with a nice 600lber still growing. Not sure if it will make a GPG weigh off, but it will be weighed on cert scales. It is crossed with my 368 Boyd 12.

A few growers selfed the 220 last year, might be a good option if you're looking for those genetics.

it seems to me that since so many seeds failed to germinate that maybe they were to young or premature by being harvested so young ?

Both of my 220s germinated; I kept one and gave the other away. I'm still going to school so I don't have as much time or money as others to put into the hobby. That being said I love this plant! No irrigation system or biologicals, but mine should still hit 1000 pounds... breaking my pb by over 400 pounds. The 220 that I gave away got destroyed by the weather here in Missouri. Earlier this year we had hail, strong winds, and the usual high heat. I am using AGs in my grad project so I was able to get a little extra space to do additional crosses. My DeBacco crosses for the year are as follows: 1495 Stelts X 220 Debacco 1357 Stevens X 220 Debacco 901 Wolf X 220 Debacco 220 Debacco X Self (sib didn't take)
