I have a pumpkin on 47 DAP and taping 800 lbs whose top half is growing out and down over the button. The button extends out about 1 inch and hasn't fallen off like is the case on my other pumpkins. I expect to have the pumpkin pushing against it within a few days. I'm not sure if I should ignore this or cut off the 1 inch of button.

Mine did same, I would leave it on as it will suck it in not being a problem.

I'm most worried about it breaking it off and that causing a blossom split. Am I being paranoid?

Peter, it should not be too much of an issue. There is not really anything you could do anyways. Leave it grow.

cutting the button off really shouldn't hurt anything. Both Chris & I have had to cut them off on 2 kins this year because they started to rot. We cut it even to the fruit & then added sulfur & a fan to dry it up. Both kins are still growing well today. I hope this helps.

Thanks. Guess I'll cut it off in the morning and apply the sulfur. Only a few days left where I can get a knife on it without risking cutting the pumpkin.

Cut the button off mine this year due to a band of rot. Healed up in no time and is fine 'touch wood' although it was a relatively small button compared to some of my others

Good luck
