Hey all,
Currently have OTT of 195, growing about 10 pounds a day. So not breaking any records but still fun for my first season. Starting to get whiteflies and more pests handguns out than I have seen before.
Used Merit drench back in June and been applying Sevin and was applying neem but haven't in a month or so. Should I go with another merit drench at this stage? Thanks for the help.

Note. That was meant to read pests "hanging" out instead of "handguns". Although that may be a good next step.

Merit, to me, is a second line of defense not first. I like contacts, biferin, is nice. But I didn't do as good of a job as I could of early on with the rain. I would like to add this little remedy for flies I discovered. Its wine season, last week after racking into the carboy I left waste product sit in the crock over night only to discover 1,000 fruit flies. No time to take care of it before work I sprinkled in a teaspoon of merit, home from work problem solved. So I tweaked it a bit, and will try next year in the hoop house. Get a bowl of wine or juice, mix in merit, soak up a wash cloth and place back in bowl. No more fruit flies anywhere.

Interesting Bravo. How much Merit did you mix in? Thanks

If you applied Merit back in June, it's time to reapply as it is effective for only approximately 4 weeks. As Bravo pointed out, a contact killer such as Talstar or Warrior should be used in combination with your systemic and bingo...problem solved. Merit products vary widely on the % of active ingredient, so follow the directions on the packaging.

I have a plastic, Rubbermaid stock waterer under a downspout to collect water for plant watering(no animal consumption). Typical of any open water collecting system the mosquitoes find and reproduce. I recently rinsed the dregs from a one gallon sprayer of Merit and Bifen into the water to clean. No more wiggletails can be found. So I have no idea if the dregs 'cleansed' the larvae or something else...just glad they are gone...for now anyway.
