1791 Holland x 1059 Vincent McGill. It was a beautifull pumpkin probably pushing 800 pounds plus. Recieved 5 inche of rain in 12 hours. Now have a quarter size hole at the rear of the pumpkin. Was planning on using this as a display pumpkin for families to get pictures taken with this fall. The pumpkin is still on the vine was wondering if putting culk in the hole would save pumpkin? Or should I just cut it off the vine and Weigh it? ANy one in Indiana have something growing that will be 1000 pound plus by the end of September for a display pumpkin? Thanks to every one who responds and hope all the rest of you the best of luck the rest of the year.

Calk it immediately! I did this last year just to see where it would end up. It gained 250 additional pounds. The calked crack will need re-sealing occasionally. The longer you wait to close the hole/crack, the faster the inevitable bacteria will grow inside. It will rot from the inside out, but you can prolong it's demise.

Or what about the seeds? Sounds like a great cross. I wish I had thought of caulking mine that split this year

I have used minwax wood filler(others dis-solve in rain or humidity) and have saved them for the front yard. You would be surprised how long you can keep them growing.Just make sure you keep at them pretty much every day. We don't have to be worried where i am about keeping them cool in sept. and oct.
