Some turn orange early, some turn orange late, some don't turn orange at all... best indicator is how many days ago you pollinated. Mine always start to really slow after day 60, but I plan on getting 100 days of growth this year in my 150 sq foot patch.

If you keep the plant healthy, main thing is the vine at this point in the season, the pumpkin should make it to the end. There is plenty of growth to be had at day 40 and on. Good luck

Good info thanks still wondering though what does pollination date have to do with pumpkin turning orange? Just my ignorance John Hoepfner Appleton, WI

The first morning after pollination date is Day 1 and this helps keep track of a pumpkins age. Pumpkins grow at certain rates according to their age and mature/turn orange if they are going to, at a certain age in their cycle (typically 90-100+ days)

Exactly. So when you see on here "30 DAP" means 30 days after pollination. If you pollinate Friday, then Sat is 1 DAP. I had a 1059 Vincent start turning orange at 15 DAP in 2011, and this year my 1674 is turning orange/green at 60 DAP. Field pumpkins are much more indicative of maturing when they go orange.

Fluffy, our 1602 Glasier has been getting more and more orange since about day 10 and we are only at day 42 now and the color is deepening with orange each week. It will grow and change in shade right till the end. All good advice from Luke.

It depends on the genetics. If you are growing one that has been bred specifically for orange genetics they can get orange very early.
