Turning to bigpumpkins.com to lick my wounds. What's your least favorite day? Mine would be August 13th,2014 coming home to an est. 1150 lbs fruit split down the blossom. I will say the 1874.5 was quite a ride though!

It wasn't just one day but the whole season. Disease, disease and more disease........
My son has a 1874.5 going on the side yard on a horrible plant ( 6 year old growing skills ) but the thing is really starting to put on the weight! Its making my whole season enjoyable even though I lost all my plants.
I'll post a picture of him with it next weekend:)

For 2014, it was about four weeks ago, when I noticed that aphids had taken a firm hold in the Carolina Cross patch. However, like manna from heaven, mass quantities of ladybugs have arrived over the past three weeks, and have effectively eliminated the aphid situation.

August 24th - 26th 2007. Lost 3 pumpkins in 3 days, but I got over it and many other losses. It can be a cruel hobby

September 26, 2005. Jacob was 14 and had a pumpkin approaching 1000#. Weighoff organizer Greg Norlin sent the local newspaper reporter out to do a story for the issue just 5 days ahead of the weighoff. That was when we found a split in Jacob's pumpkin. I had a potential Howard Dill winner around 700# that split 3 days later. It left us with a couple of 300# to 400# pumpkins.

the week of july 21 this year both of my plants shut down due to virus. This is my 3rd year and I didn't realize how many folks in the neighborhood were looking forward to seeing the giant pumpkins. I have had so many people say how it won't be the same not seeing the big pumpkin in the yard. I have one about 350# that I hope hangs on through the fall but once you have had 1000# nothing else will due.

Yesterday was one of them... Always sucks to lose a pumpkin, but specially when you lose the best one in your patch. Not to mention losing 2 pumpkins out of 4 in two days. These are the days you say to yourself that you will keep year of next year, until the spring comes and... lol!

I remember that Arvada, We didn't have that type of storm, but having 5" in 10hours after a summer long drought certainly wasn't ideal.

My worst day is when Chris told me his kids pumpkin, growing on a broken down plant, was bigger than mine.
