How do you like to tease out maximum orange colour in your pumpkins..... leave exposed to sun full season, last 30 days etc ??

Last year I covered most of the season and probably didn't leave enough time to get the best colour out of one of mine.

Peter, I believe genetics will do most of the work. Below was my 840 Young from last year and it was almost red. I just had a sheet over it to get limited filtered light and it still went that dark orange. I definitely would not give it full sun the last 30 days since you will lose some potential growth.

Damn that is one red pumpkin Luke.

In losing potential growth, is this from premature fruit maturation?

If it is smoothed skin. Wiping it down with a soft cloth brings its luster out. Kind of like an apple

Sun was important for me last year. It stayed yellow until I started uncovering it for the daytime. Only then did it really start to put on orange color
