Looking through the various diaries I notice several people growing giant squash. For clarification, would these be in a different classification if taken to weigh offs? How is it determined (other than color say) by officials? I notice a lot of white, green, cream, etc. being grown anymore and wonder if this causes problems (or maybe some misconception) of species in competitions.

I believe that giant squash and atlantic giants are of the same species and variety, only that the 'giant squash' as we call them, are bred to show the recessive green gene. Therefore, giant squash are baisically atlantic giants, though they are still referred to as giant squash.

A squash has to be 100% green, blue or gray. if there is even a little bit of yellow or cream in it it will be entered in the Pumpkin category. The controversy comes in when you try determine where exactly the dividing line is between gray and cream that is left up to the judges discretion.
