I am growing a 1791 Holland seed this year and the blossom end is coming together. See

I have a question when it comes together dose it mean that it wont get the dreaded BES. I cant believe that it folded as much as it has.
Also anyone know how to keep cats away from pumpkins. I have one that using the sand as a litter box and jumped up on it one night, you can see the scratches in the photos. Thanks Dan

Maybe you spread the sand a little deep? Sucked in blossoms seem to have fewer BES, but if it collects water you can get fruit rot in the "birdbath". Get some sulphur dusted in cavity before it closes off to stave off fungus. I like the dimpled blossom ends because they seem to go heavy.

Thanks Farmer Ben. I have had sulfur on the button stub for a while. I will load up on it in a day or two hen it comes together. I have spread out the sand and hopefully the cat wont be back. Any Ideas how to dry it out if it dose get wet?

I am surprised to see the color so light. The 1791 was pretty Orange must have gotten a lot of the 2009 into the genetics on the pollination.

It is starting to turn orange now. I will post another picture Friday. Also it is starting to get big ribs. Not growing as fast as I would expect, but still growing.
