A critter took a bite out of one of my pumpkins. Its not a huge area they took out. Will it just fix itself or is there a good way to fix it so the pumpkin doesn't rot out?

I think mine was a rabbit that put a dozen or good sized bite marks and a good chewing frenzy on my 834.5 squash. Damn bunny. Dusted it with sulphur and as long as the bites aren't dangerously deep all should heal over.

Nothing to worry about. I have painted similar wounds with straight daconil and they healed. Use something to repel the critters, like fox or coyote urine.

Blood meal repels plant eaters. So does dusting the base of the fruit with sulphur.

It's also getting to that time of year when you may find damage from mice. They like to chew off the skin along the base of the fruit. I find that a ring of moth balls every 4 inches around the base of the fruit keeps them from being interested in the fruit.
