Last year I purchased a regular zucchini plant, harvested the small one's to eat, grew one to 5-7lbs just for the seeds for this year. I planted two plants. They grew into giant bushes, large leaves, with some vining. In no time at all they grew 20-30-40lb zucchini's! Smooth skinned, dark green, white spots, over 2ft long but big around. I left one on a plant to mature and keep the seeds and its about 40lbs. I am not sure how this happened. Last year I had my AG pumpkin and a 127dmg LaRue field pumpkin in the garden. Could it of crossed with the field pumpkin? The zucchini's selfed this year. Any info would be helpful, or if you want seeds and photo's, email me at rickspaziani@yahoo.com. I would hate to waste the seeds.

Zucchini's will cross readily with field pumpkins. I would love to see the pictures.

Thank you for the info. Give me your email and I can send in an attachment. I don't have a growers diary section. Maybe next year. Rick

That's really cool. I've got a regular zucchini plant that I"m letting one fruit go for the as long as possible. My friend is a nurse in the ER and she got a kick of carrying a big one into work last year. It wasn't all that large by comparison, but for a non-gardener it was apparently pretty impressive. :)
