Hi,
I am setting up a new patch. The area in which I plan to grow is covered with ice plant, though besides that it is the best place to grow. I read on the internet that you have to baisically drench them in herbicide and even then you have to wait for three weeks for them to die, and once they do die you have to remove all of the refuge (alot). has anyone delt with ice plant? Could you give any advice if so? Thanks.

I've not had problems removing ice plant (Delosperma - right?) at all. I would just get out and yank the stuff out. It's a very drought tolerant, succulent plant. Any seeds or succulent leaves that remain after you pull the plant, will most likely die from all the watering the new pumpkin will require. Pretty little plant when in bloom, but they don't do well in wet soil.

Best thing you have is time. I have not dealt with that plant, but I have dealt with 150 year old ash trees and best thing to do is start and make several runs at it.

I would reccomend: 1. herbicide or solarize. 2. remove surface litter. 3. water and germinate the weed seedbank. 4. spray or solarize again. 5.repeat steps 2-4 as necessary.
when you are satisfied most of the weeds are dead and gone, start your fall prep as normal.
