the vine leading to the pumpkin is fine but right on the other side of the stem is cracking any suggesting on what to do?

Your pumpkin is growing on top of the downstream vine. You need to cut the vine about 1 inch below the crack or the fruit will rip the vine in half or worse.

Hi Jared, Joe is right, you need to terminate the vine right after the fruit (but you retain the vine from the stump of the plant to the stem of the pumpkin). Finding a cure to this problem is a good thing, but learning out of a rookie mistake probably is the much more important thing. If I haven´t mentioned the importance of an S-curve to you last year, then I apologize for leaving this out of my emails. But at least now seems to be just about the right time to read and learn about S-curves and what they are good for (you will never be as susceptible for this topic than just right now, for the reason you had posted in your diary).
