Well It looks like My Pumpkin has a Dill Ring.

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=224362

I am stuck with it because its my 150SF Plant and all the vines are terminated. I have a few questions.

1. What percentage chance do I have of getting the Pumpkin to weigh off? I know Dill rings make them more likely to split but is it 30% 50% 80% or what?

2. How Does a Dill Ring Affect weight. Do they tend to not grow as well as a pumpkin without one.

3. What does a Dill Ring do to the genetic line. I made a specific cross on this Pumpkin and I am wondering if the offspring will be affected. Has anyone out there ever grown seeds from a Pumpkin with a Dill ring and if you did did you notice any abnormalities.

The answer to #3 is the dill ring is environmental because not enough plant to feed the pumpkin fully.Dont worry about genetics in this circumstance.

With a smaller plant I would say your chances are better with it betting to the scale. A dill ring won't really effect the weight. It is more of a defect/crack. I would say that in this case the pumpkin may have wanted to grow more but was either lacking in nutrients or water for a period and wasn't able to meet the dinner bell.

I would just grow the pumpkin and not worry about the likelihood of it splitting. I agree with Joe. My 844, which split due to a dill ring, has produced offspring that do not show any sines whatsoever of dill rings.
