Think two pieces of play dough , one green and one yellow; if you twist those with a bit more yellow is what I have experienced with pumpkins vines that will produce bright orange. That's at least from 1059 Vmg and Young seeds. I'd be curious to hear if other orange producers like Gerhardt are the same.

There are really three vine colors. Green, yellow, and a bit of a mix. But the thing is, the color can change as the vine matures. I have noticed that green vines tend to stay green, and yellow vines can, as they age, form a yellow/dark green mix. This seems to have no effect whatsoever on growth, though I personally like solid green vines.
