I had a year where a plant contracted a virus and I had weird looking pumpkins too. My only concern with keeping this pumpkin would be the spread of a virus if in fact that's what is causing the deformity.

Definitely there is always hope. Often the one I am sure will go down makes it to the end. While one that looks flawless goes down before it's time. The dill ring started on top where it intersects with that to rib valley is where I would expect it to go. But I have had this shape before and the pumpkin was solid as a rock. So it made it the whole season.

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=99277 Look at these two pumpkins especially the Wallace one. You just never know which one will split.
