I removed a small pumpkin today because it was duller that the rest of the pumpkins on the plant. Are the shinier ones more likely to grow bigger and faster or is that a misunderstanding on my part? thanks

Kathy, the shine means it is healthy, when they are small and dull usually the pollination was unsuccessful.

Once they appear to be set they will visually be getting bigger. At about 20+ dap they'll lose that high gloss and go semi gloss. If you think one has quit growing take a circumference measurement on consecutive days. If its not getting bigger it has aborted.

Mine was growing. The difference was like semi gloss paint vs. high gloss. The high gloss were very yellow, while the other was duller and light yellow I just had some a day or so behind that were quite shiney.
