I have a small split in my pumkin stem. Anything I can do?
Everything that has been damaged in the past has healed but open to suggestions.

I usually paint them with straight daconil and try to keep them dry.

it is much easier to give good advise with a picture

Yes, keep it dry (a fan works wonders) and use some fungicide on it to protect the wound, but first you must determine what is causing it and correct the issue before it gets worse.

Stem split can mean many things to many people.

Stem splits can be caused by stem stress, ( can you wiggle the vines feeding the stem), are you raising the vine with the pumpkin growth and putting something under it to support the weight of the vine?

is it actually in the stem or in the pumpkin at the stem?

How deep is it?

How old is the pumpkin?

So that you do not feel all alone with your stem split, here is a shot of mine:

It's happened on the underside of three 10 day old pumpkins on the same plant. This split has moved 5mm in the last 2 days and is now at the pumpkin/stem boundary.

Yikes!!!

In 2011 I was so shocked to find those bad bad splits on my best pumpkin at baby age and 3 months later I was so impressed by what the stem had turned into, simply by letting the plant do its things, without any manipulations on the stem or the splits. Sometimes things are looking worse than they actually are.

I thought all pumpkins had stem splits? lol. I had an 8 inch split from pumpkin to vine at day 6 or 7 - kept it dry and now the kin is pushing 300 pounds and split is a big character giving scar.
