I searched BP extensively but did not find much information on this. Due to a day 19 split on 7-13 and all other pumpkins on the main aborting and the main self terminating I am forced to pollinate sidevines on my 2009. I do have a secondary trained as the "new" main with a 7-19 pollination as well as 3 other side pollinations.
-What about pumpkins on an actual secondary vine not a vine trained as the main. What sizes have been produced in this manner if its the only pumpkin growing. Thanks jeff

I had one pollinated 20 feet out (from the main) on a secondary and was around 450 on day 45 when it blew out in the back. Try getting one close to the main as possible.

I think you'll do pretty good. I'd guess about a 10% handicap over a main vine. I grew one to 990 in a land where the record is 1275.5...

Jeff, last year my 2009 main broke off and I grow a 945 lb one on a secondary before it had a BES on 44 DAP.

My first year the main vine tip died and I had to grow on a secondary, and I grew a 572 pound pumpkin off of that. I am in a similar situation to you now, as both of the main vines on my plants (2009 and my 844) have died from excessive heat. I have two pumpkins set on regular side vines that I plan on growing, and I guess that we will see how well they will do.
