I gave in and did a stump drench in my soil of merit, it is the year of the aphids and I am having massive outbreaks. I usually go organic, but use chemical as a last resort. How long do you think the plant will take to get it in it's system and start working in a 500 sq foot plant? I sprayed the affected leaves with organicide to knock them down for a little bit. Just curious and opinions. I did the stump area only, just trying to be as least invasive with my spraying as possible. thanks. Jim

Jim, I've read it takes only a matter of hours for the entire plant to take the systemic in. All depends on how loose/sandy your soil is for the systemic to reach the roots when drenching. I personaly drench around the trunk area and most all the way up the main for it to get into thee entire plant at quicker rate when drenching alone and not spraying. Good Luck with the aphids & The Best to You and Yours!!

I agree, but if you truly want to treat the whole plant you will have to do more than the stump... at least with vine borers. I treat 1/8 Oz a gallon along the entire main and still find live grubs in tips of the secondaries. I just don't have a way to drench the main and all secondaries. I do remove all male flowers also to prevent harm to bees.

Hey Jim, I don't drench when the plants are large, I find it more effective to foliar feed to dripping instead. I Usually use 1/4 tsp of merit 75wp per 2 gallon sprayer and that will treat a large or full plant....
Works within a day or 2 and seems to last for in excess of 6 weeks.
We only have aphids to battle and do not get vine bores or cuke beetles so 2 or 3 applications per growing year seem to do the trick
BTW, my buddies 980 looks awesome. 980 x 1602 Glasier.

Luke-I drench by using my gallon sprayer and just set for a coarse spray and spray along each vine. It's a pain but I can control the stream pretty easily and only have to do the merit every 2 wks.
