When you use fabric cloth, do you put the sand on top of the cloth or the cloth on top of the sand?

I use light weight weed fabric and put a couple inches of sand on top. I know that most growers who use the heavy mill fabric put some sand on top, don't know if the use any under it.

I use the mill fabric but I think with anything including plywood you'd at least use some sand on top for movement when it grows and drainage underneath.

I usually put a bag or two of sand under the mill fabric just to help level things up and smooths over some of the rocks I have. provides some drainage also.
