Finally had a female open today on giant kin. No males in site. Can I use a male blossom off my neighbors field pumpkin blossum if this happens again. My understanding is that it only effects offspring seeds but doesn't affect the size of this years kin. any comments

Yes I do not think that that would work. I don't grow field pumpkins. Are they curcubits? If so then they might work, though I am not sure.

It could cross with winter squashes...like acorn...Let the bees do it...or wait for next one in line....and some males

Acorn is a hard neck squash like field pumpkins and zucchini. Hubbard and banana squash are soft neck squash like AGs.

i already cut her off. going to wait for the next one. Don't expect a real big one this year judging by the plant size so far. Very disappointing!!!!!

If it happens again, I would suggest you find the closest grower to you & ask them for pollen. We've had growers that have driven over an hour to get here to get pollen. I'm not sure where Zurich is, but I'm sure there is likely a grower near you somewhere. We wish you all the best on your next pollination. Jane & Phil

Has anyone ever tried and succeeded in collecting pollen and then freezing it to avoid this sort of thing?
