One a day. You can google under advanced search with bigpumpkins.com as the website to search and I think there is lots of discussion on this topic. Most try to keep the vines within bounds of patch but there are exceptions. Good Luck.

I prune the very tiny end of a secondary when the vine tip is about 18 inches from the designated boundary. The vine will typically elongate about that much more before final length is reached. If I have 10 secondaries that happen to be at that point all on the same day, then I prune all 10. I am from the I don't have time to tip-toe around my plants school of growing.

I do the opposite of ON. I let the vine grow past where I'll prune it. That's to get some size on the last leaf-doesn't burn as bad. Also gets the vine to lay down better at last couple leaves. Then I cut it.

I don't have trouble with burners very often. My thought is to avoid wasting plant energy growing leaves and vines that will be cut off later.

Previously I did what Orangeneck did, pick the little tip in advance. This year I am doing what cojoe describes above and it works far better for me. Much easier to get the end buried and far less leaf burn.

One of the things I have noticed for me is if I terminate at a node that has not started to root the node tends not to root at all. If I let the secondary grow out like cojoe does to the point that where I want to terminate has started to root then that last node will continue to root after termination.
