For weeks my vines have laid down nice and flat. Now, suddenly, many of the secondaries, particularly the older secondaries, are reaching for the sky. I have tried to find the reason with a site search, but have come up empty. I would appreciate any answers and, more importantly, any good suggestions.

If I recall- high nitrogen will cause this, but you better tune in to some of the more experienced growers. Just be careful not to pin them down too quickly or they will snap.

I heard a lot of liquid fish will do that to them.

I noticed the same thing in my patch. It started when the weather warmed up. I suspect the nitrogen is more readily taken up with the higher temps.

When the weather warms up the organic matter is broken down quickly and there is a rush of available nitrogen. My guess is you have a lot of organic matter or just over fertilized recently. It will subside but in the meantime lay off any extra nitrogen and be careful with the vines as they will be very brittle as well.

My plants are doing the same thing and it is the same as mentioned above. We had a long strech of wet weather so my soil was saturated. Now with warm sunny dry weather there is a lot of Nitrogen available and I am dealing with what you mention. It will correct itself in time or with the 2-4 inches of rain they are calling for tomorrow.haha

this usually happens as the secondaries get longer, they get more aggressive and thicker vines, I seem to get this every year as well. It's a good sign :)
