For those who dont know Barry. He grew ag's from the early 80's when he heard of Howard Dill. He Grew other large pumpkins before that. He had been fighting leukemia since last Fall.

Barry was one of the first back when we just got started. Growing at altitude, he always impressed me. We spoke a couple of times a year or so ago and he had a great outlook on life. Truly one of giant pumpkin growing's greatest! God Bless,

Barry Todd was one of the pioneers of giant pumpkin growing. He started growing as a teenager in Colorado. we got to know Barry well and became good friends. Barry was very soft spoken and had a calming and soothing voice and also a great vocabulary! Barry hauled pumpkins three times from Littleton, Colorado to Half Moon Bay, California. He was a witness to pumpkin history. Nobody had grown a 500 lb pumpkin but there were a couple of growers entered at Half moon Bay who had a good shot at 500. Art Quint thought he had it all sewed up with a nice 500 lb plus pumpkin. Then Norm Gallagher from Washington showed up with a big blob of a pumpkin which weighed 612 lbs. Norm got ten thousand for his pumpkin which went to Hawaii. While on display, all the seeds sprouted in the 612. Barry took a hiatus from growing only to resume a few years ago. He took a pumpkin to HMB a few years ago and I think he finished 2nd or 3rd. He held the Colorado record several times. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Pete and Cindi Glasier

Sorry to hear of Barry's passing. I didn't know him personally, but I had sent him seeds in the past & have seen his name on the results pages. Our condolences to his family & friends.

PS. Here is something that comes to me whenever I hear of the loss of another fellow grower. Maybe the GPC could one day set up a memorial page on their website that is dedicated to the growers that have passed away over the years. It wouldn't need to be much other than a short reflection of their achievements (Personal bests, local club &/or GPC volunteering) during their AG growing career. That way our pumpkin-growing friends will always be remembered. Just a thought. Anyone else like this idea?

I think he will never be forgotten for one of the all-time best practical jokes when he pulled up at Nick's weigh-off with a new state record that nobody knew about. He had a friend bring one of his other pumpkins and had that friend give Joe a greeting card. Then he timed it perfectly when he pulled up with his big one right at that time Joe had finished reading that card. Barry was grinning ear-to-ear that entire drive to Half Moon I'm sure.

I cant remember the last time I have been on Big Pumpkins... 10 years ago? Well I'm just in here to say Barry is and was a mentor to me and many other Colorado growers. He and I bounced ideas off one another for many hours on the phone. I really will miss him and miss seeing his one of a kind hat... I am heartbroken that another great grower is no longer here doing what he did best... Rest in Peace good friend, I will truly miss you.

I first got to know Barry as a customer, then as a mentor and friend. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of pumpkin genetics. He was always very generous with his time, guidance, and advice. Pete and Cindi-he always spoke well of you. Barry-you lived respected and died regretted. I will miss you.
