In the old days the golden zone to pollinate was something like July 1 - 10. It is always nice if you are lucky to get one of those June something pollinations but for me it is completely up to mother nature. My best vines are around the 5-6 feet mark and I am feeling pretty good about it. ( No sandbagging here James). Congrats to everyone who's hard work is paying off.. in looking at the diaries it looks like there are a bunch of early sets this year.

Pollinated two plants this morning at 10' and 12'. I probably shouldn't of pollinated the one at 10'. Mains are anywhere from 12' to 18'out. This has been the best weather for me in a long time. All of the plants are doing well even the ones I had to really prune after a early storm messed two of the plants up. Who knows if it is all weather or a combinations of better soil balancing, weather and along with the best genetics I have ever had in my patch.

Drew McCoy is the 1st stop on the OVGPG summer tour (Sunday, July 27th). Don't miss this up and coming grower. The plants were very impressive 2 weeks ago.

if your sights are set at a world record then the new rule is to pollinate a couple weeks earlier than before ( now june 20-27th) having said that ? many very large pumpkins have also been grown with early to mid july pollinations. pap
