This morning while forking in some grass clippings in my compost pile I uncovered a blue tailed lizard with what appeared to be 6-7 eggs nearby(slightly larger than a half runner bean seed in appearance). In an earlier dig I had found a toad frog. Has anybody else found any interesting 'discoveries' while turning their compost? Plastic coat hangers excluded....

I'm sure you found a Skink. I have found two of them near my house this year along with toads, frogs, salamanders, man eating mosquitos with talons, you name it!

I'm always finding snakes in piles of weeds and grass clippings. Garter, little brown, fox, bull, rat and blue racers. Whenever I hear my wife let out a blood-curdling scream I know one got in the house. About a year ago we watched a mink chase a rabbit around the house. From the sounds we heard, the mink had a nice meal.

Found an AG sprouting out of my compost pile last week - gonna let it grow and see what happens. Other than that the craziest thing I've found is amazed by how aggressively roots from a nearby silver maple tree grow up into the compost pile.

About 15 or so black snake eggs in my compost a few years ago. Other than that a little toy truck.

I found a groundhog den underneath my compost pile this year. By Sunday they will all be dead or gone.

My daughter found my wedding ring in the garden, which had been missing for a couple of years. I also found a couple old horseshoes.

About 10 years ago I went to turn my compost pile and shoved the pitchfork into a nest of hornets, got stung about 12 times running to the house and then about 6 of them were flying around the house. I didn't have any reactions maybe a little dizziness.
