Notice alot of diary pictures with Bungee cords holding down the vines this year vs the wooden stakes ? Who started this new trend any reason why?

Not sure it's a trend or if folks are just getting braver when it comes to posting images of their remedies. I've used bungee cord, panty hose, neck ties, zip ties, rocks tied to kite string...and I would never post up an image of any of those fixes...lol.

Using the weight of bungee cords draped over the vine is a great way to gently lower the vine where you want it. Less invasive to the soil and roots too, since you don't have to poke two bamboo stakes into the ground at every vine. But bungee cords are less resistant to wind, meaning the vine can now possibly get blown around and break.

I use bamboo to stabilize from wind. The bungees seem to help lower the vines to touchdown nicely.

I'm going to try super gluing the vines to the dirt. Now if I can find it in gallon tubes.

I bought three 500 foot rolls of #12 wire at an auction for 7.00 over the winter- I cut them as needed, and wala, vine staples!! Nice that they are brightly colored so I can find them this fall! :}

Stepping on the vine really works great too.

My black lab loves to move a vine around. For some reason when the wind blows she be;ieves it is alive..lol

LB funny you mention bright colors. I leave my steel lock blade knife in the patch all year and I used to forget where I left it when burying vines and cutting tendrils. I paint it a camo orange, blue and yellow each year and never lose track of it now.

White or Pink work excellent...Brown and Green become mulch when the tiller eats them

I think that most of the bamboo skewers that I used last year are mulch by now.

I have a question on holding down vines. Any rules here on when to start? I am in 4th true leaf stage and vine hasn't fallen yet. I have it protected from wind pretty well but wondering when the best time to start anchoring the vine down and if there are any rules about what NOT to do. I just down want to anchor down with my sticks and somehow inhibit the vine growth. Thanks!

Youre trying to stabilize the vines so wind cant roll them.The weight from covering with dirt will go along ways. Also the dirt will promote both tap roots to form at each leaf node. Don't try to pull your main vine down.stabilize it with bamboo so it doesn't roll in the wind. Its weight will bring it down.Also the tendrils will give way to the weight and they help it come down safely.
