This is my first year using heat tape in my soil. I noticed huge difference in how fast my plant grew. Wondering if using them occasionally, ex. Nights and as the season nears fall, or cool spells, will do harm or help?

My first year using them also, Ive read that a lot of people using them leave them on all year (with a thermostat)
cant see where it would hurt

Only problem I see is if the roots grow over the cables when there off? Will this burn the roots & encourage disease?? Just asking?

I would think it would burn the roots, but then again Ive read here that some people leave them off during the summer and turn them on again late in the season.
I think I read that the wallace crew leaves them on all year, but I cant be sure on that.
Maybe I can get mine dug out before the plant dies naturally this year and have a look at them.

I leave mine on. Roots look good. I think it would be worse turning them off and on. The cables would get much warmer because they would run longer in between.
