I have chosen to use Talstar and Merit 75. Need expert advice on when to apply and intervals for subsequent applications. Also mixture rate per gallon for each.

I mix a cocktail of 1/8 tsp. Merit, and 1/2 oz. Talstar with one gallon of water. I may go overboard, but I apply it once a week to the new growth of the plant. Once the plant stops growing I apply it every 2-3 weeks.

Hey all, Merit question follow up. I'm having trouble locating Merit in quantities that work for me. I've only got one plant going. Any suggestions? Also, Gritch mentions the Merit 75. Any value in going with the granules? Thanks.

Granular is slower, but you can see where its broadcasted, unlike a drench

Newguy look for the active ingredient Imidacloprid. Bayer Tree and Shrub has it along with a few others in the Big Box Stores

Thank you all. Just found some with brand Compare N Save. It's a 1.47% concentration.

One follow up question. At the 1.47% concentration, this is about 1/50th of the 75% Merit concentration. The concentration and application instructions are useless with the Cpmpare N Save, as they are only focused on trees. Assuming Gritch's 1/8 tsp per gallon makes sense, should I use that as a baseline for my concentration? If so, that would translate into 6.25 teaspoons of the 1.47% per gallon of water (50*1/8)...Which translates into almost exactly one oz per gallon. Is my logic good here?
Also, I was hoping to get away with one or two applications. If so, would I increase the concentration above? Thanks.

I was always told to apply Merit at 4 teaspoons per 1,000 square feet with 2 gallons of water. I apply it with a hand pump sprayer, and then water it in. I do that at the start of the season. After that I use the cocktail that I mentioned above.
Newguy eBay is the place to buy Merit these days. I cannot find it anywhere cheaper.

NewGuy,
I have been using the 1.47 % concentrate Imidacloprid for for many years with much success. I will do a soil drench once a month for June, July, August, & Sept. For the first application in the beginning of june the plants are still small my main is out about 7-8 feet right now, I will drench 4 oz of 1.47 % mixed in with 4 gallons of water to the entire stump area about a 5 foot radius.
For my next applications I will use 6 -7 oz mixed with 6-8 gallons of water and drench the stump area and up the main vine. I will apply it a total of 4 times through out the season. This pesticide will be sucked up by the roots and run through out the plant, so any bugs that chew on the pant should die off.
I also use a topical application every 10 days or so of bifen, I use the Ortho Max which is concentrated at .03 % (If I remember correctly) and I mix it per the label at 1.5 oz to a gallon, I apply this foliar with any other ferts I am applying at the same time.
Never spray any foliar during the day, you want to do it in late evening or right at sunrise. IF you spray during the day and it is sunny out you will probably toast your plants.

by the way I picked up my Bayer T&S this year in the back of the store in there clearance are for $2.99 a bottle which is a steal it is usually about $20.
I will usually hit random garden sections in the winter time to see what is on clearance, they have some pretty good deals sometimes.
I found a all organic fertilizer product in a hose end sprayer bottle 32 oz with seaweed, humic, Mycor, and some other products for a buck a bottle. I cleaned them out. Made in the usa by the way.

Pumpkin Picker, Thanks! Really helpful. I will be using the Ortho Max as well. Good deals you found and good idea to clean them out in the Winter. I'm new to this, but will keep my eye open later in the year. Thanks again.
