One more for redemption. On a roll today...thank you Jacob Lienenkugel for the inspiration. Can i get a "hell yah" from the 'sconie crew???
When we consider what are some of the major milestones that have significantly contributed to the amazing logarithmic growth curve top weights have achieved over the history of this hobby, I consider the use of mychorhizzal fungi one of big ones.
Million dollar question is "what's next???"
What will be the next big thing we incorporate in our growing programs to continually push the bar north of the 1 ton threshold?
My money is on hormones.
Harnessing the power of plant growth regulators in a way that positively enhances plant growth and ultimately pumpkin weights is an untapped field. Much conversation has transpired on these boards over the years on this topic. Frustratingly, the concept is shrouded in mystery and lack of specifics.
Despite this, however, I've conversed with farmers who are beginning to utilize PGRs as a way to increase yield in grain crops.
methinks what is good for grain yield may have potential for pumper weight, eh?
One product that's popped up on my radar as a crop additive is Winfield's "Ascend".
Google it and have a look at the trial data. Has the door been opened to PGR application???????
Its got my attention.

3oz/acre...translates to a very very very small amount for a seedling!

Your local cooperative will carry it (if they are affiliated with Land o Lakes). It comes in 2.5 gallon jugs at $230/gallon. You could probably get a couple ounces out of a jug if you ask nicely. Adam.
