Around here for spring. On a side note I outdid myself in "riggings". We had a threat of hail last night and my plants have outgrown their green houses. I McGyver'd a 12 foot minnow seine over the plant as a hail net. No hail but the old net worked great. I think we could give Jeff Foxworthy a whole new show. What are some other ones?

Browny, I hope you beat the record as you predicted, I won't. But this post is a call for redneck ingenuity - lets see or hear about some.

I was thinking of a beer can (bladed) wind mill to power a water pump! But after drinking all that beer I forgot what I was going to do! Then I had to go back into the posts to find out what I should be pee'n on in the garden! I almost didn't figure it out in time. Life has its challenges.

1k fruit grown using a trampoline and a beer can wind mill... that's a first! I found an old Chevy in my patch in 2011.

Interesting you should mention beer cans. The 150 sq. ft. contest uses a 12 oz., or 335ml, beer (or pop lol) can as a standard. If a can is an average diameter of 6.5 cm that is 42.25 sq. cm which converts to 3300 cans to cover a 150 square feet. 3300 cans at 12 oz. is 39600 oz. of your favorite beverage. At 5% alcohol that is 1980.00 ounces (maybe 600 ounces if it is American beer). 1980 divided by approximately 198 days in a growing season gives 10 0z a day of necessary consumption to achieve success. ? Maybe this answers some questions. All we can to do is strive for infection or maybe that's perfection Idunno

Nor-cal on your windmill thing.I tried something like that one rainy day years ago.used two open face reels with a 1/5 crank ratio.I hooked were the spool of one to were the hand crank of other.so when I turned crank A it spun 5×so with it connected to crank made it spin 5× also which made end spool turn 25×.so 1 revolution made 25 revolutions.

Yardman, great project! I really enjoy those type of projects. The only regret I get comes later when I realize that I should have been doing something more constructive like fixing the hole in the roof. The award for creativeness should go to Darren. Check out his March 20th post in the diaries. He built a shaker table to remove the unwanted debris from some compost he got. The shaker mechanism is a jigsaw mounted on an overhead arm with a string or wire to the mesh table.
