Any input on planting to keep the vines on the ground ... Every year the vines grow vertically and I have a heck of a time training them to hug the ground ... I've tried planting at about a 45°angle which helps ...has anyone ever planted at a 90°angle?? Any ideas? ?

It seems 90 would be to close to the ground or enough that the rootball would be exposed or hard to bury. I start training with long bamboo sticks when they are really young. As it just starts to vine, angle a stick down over and under it slightly towards the ground. (support from all sides (bottom, top, left, right) will prevent a snapped vine. I adjust them daily over the next couple weeks to get the vine held down from a 12 oclock position to a 5 oclock landing position. This is one area I have been 100% in the past 5 years. Lots of support and go slow.

Keep em trained down with bamboo. Also when its warm you can put some moist dirt at the back of the stem and push em down a little. I planted mine at 4 leaf stage and have them parallel to ground already.

Great to hear Cojoe, I have two 1734's in right now and they are outpacing everything else I have planted, albeit early.

Thanks everyone for the advice ... I usually go full throttle on the fertilizer especially in the beginning. ..This may be the issue lol
