Subject: They rotted

Started seeds 5 days ago they all rotted in a greenhouse!! What did I do wrong? I took dirt from the garden it was I'm sure not the warmest! The house never got below 70 degrees!!

Don't use garden soil to start your seeds. You need to use a sterile seed starter mix. Garden soil will carry disease and harbor pests like corn seed maggots. I buy the $4 bags at Lowes and do fine. Soil being too moist often causes rot as well. If in doubt, keep it drier and don't let temps go over 90.

I would not attempt to start seeds in soil at all. Wrap in damp paper towel, put in zip lock bag and put somewhere warm. check after 3 days, and if sprouted put in soil. 3 or 4 days will usually do it!!!!!
